Science and Policy Committee
In 2024, SWCS Leadership approved a new SWCS Advocacy Plan to guide policy and advocacy priorities. To implement these priorities, the plan proposes various activities, including sharing policy updates with members, hosting advocacy skill-building workshops, creating annual policy and appropriations priorities, monitoring and acting on key issues, pursuing partnerships and funding opportunities, and collecting regular feedback from subject-matter experts and members. The Science & Policy (S&P) Committee plays a crucial role in this process, serving as a resource for the SWCS CEO and staff, identifying key issues for white papers or position statements, and participating in policy-related activities. The plan also outlines guidelines for committee composition, tenure, and decision-making processes, ensuring a structured approach to SWCS's advocacy efforts.
The committee meets monthly, and members serve a one-year term. Applications for student representatives are open in May and June. New committee members begin in their roles each year in August.
